AMB WEEKLY UPDATE 3-2-2026

Greetings Eagle family! It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these things! And there is a lot that is about to happen with our program this month! We have lots of awesome events coming up, and this update has a ton of schedule-related information. It is really important to read through everything to make sure that you know your arrival and performance times for the performances scheduled this week.
 
CALENDAR: Here is a look at the band calendar that takes us to UIL Concert and Sightreading:

  • March 6: Jazz Band @ Blinn College Jazz Festival
  • March 9: HS Band Evaluation music releases
  • March 10: Pre-UIL All Non Varsities Band Concert and Sightreading
  • March 12: Pre-UIL Varsity Band Concert and Sightreading
  • March 14: Wind Ensemble Masterclass 8:00am to 12:00pm
  • March 16-20: Spring Break
  • March 23: Booster Meeting
  • March 28: Jazz Band @ Sam Houston State University Jazz Festival
  • March 30-April 2: UIL Concert and Sightreading

Non-Varsity Pre-UIL: Coming up on March 10 Tuesday, we have Pre-UIL Concert Sightreading for all NON-VARSITIES (3rd, 4th and 6th period)

ELIGIBILITY: First and foremost: Students – EVERYONE IS ELIGIBLE FOR OUR PRE-UIL CONCERT & SIGHT-READING PERFORMANCE!! BE HERE!! Let’s try really hard to stick to the schedule.

UIL ATTIRE:

  • SHOES: Must be all black. No white/brown soles or colored shoelaces. They must be dressy-casual or dressy. No high heels please.
  • PANTS: Must be solid black (not dark grey, blue or any other color). Ensure the pants are full length and not designed to be short. Make sure they are dressy. No black jeans.
  • BELTS: Must be black. If there are belt loops, the student must wear a belt that is professional and not colorful.
  • SOCKS/HOSIERY: Solid BLACK sock/hosiery that at least goes up the mid-calf.
  • SHIRTS: Solid BLACK (not grey, light black, navy or any other color) long sleeve, button down, collared shirt for gentlemen with a solid black tie. Ladies should wear a long sleeve blouse that is not too light weight because the stage/auditorium could be chilly.
  • HAIR: Can be down, pretty, but not distracting.
  • NAILS: Can be clear, natural, or THIN white French manicure only.
  • JEWELRY: Please no watches or bracelets. One ring on each hand (not finger) may be worn. A light, non-distracting necklace may be worn.

**There will be a visual uniform inspection when we meet in the Orchestra Room. Please understand that if you are not dressed correctly, you will not be able to perform with the band at Pre-UIL. Please verify that you have the correct attire and solve any issues that arise before Monday!**


PRE-UIL ARRIVAL AND PERFORMANCE TIMES
Concert Band (6th Period)
  • 3:00 PM - Band Hall OPEN
    • Change into UNIFORM
    • Report directly to the Band Hall
  • 3:40 PM - Seated on Stage in PAC (Don’t play yet!)
  • 3:45 PM - Warm-Up
  • 4:30 PM - Performance & Clinic
  • 5:15 PM - Clear Stage
Symphonic Band (3rd Period)
  • 4:15 PM - Report to the Band Hall.
    • Dressed in concert attire with instrument, music, and mutes (if needed). 
  • 4:25 PM - Seated in Band Hall (Don’t play yet!)
  • 4:30 PM - Warm-Up begins
  • 5:20 PM - Performance & Clinic
  • 6:05 PM - Clear Stage
Wind Symphony (4th Period)
  • 5:15 PM - Band Hall OPEN
    • Report directly to the Band Hall
    • Dressed in concert attire with instrument, music, and mutes (if needed). 
  • 5:25 PM - Seated in Band Hall (Don’t play yet!)
  • 5:30 PM - Warm-Up
  • 6:15 PM - Performance & Clinic
  • 7:15 PM - Pre-UIL over; Strike set-up; Go home

Varsity Pre-UIL: Coming up on March 12 Thursday, we have Pre-UIL Concert Sightreading for the Wind Ensemble varsity band (5th period)

Please see attire above for what to wear.

VARSITY PRE-UIL SCHEDULE:
  • 3:30    AHS Varsity Warmup
  • 4:00    AHS Varsity Performance
  • 4:45    Clinic
  • 6:45    Clinic Ends
  • 7:00    Strike stage

HS Band Evaluation: Evaluation for next year’s high school band classes, music will be released in March. And evaluations will take place during the school day in April.

Performance dates: Check the calendar above for the dates that band students will need to be in attendance for major performances. The jazz band is performing at major festivals, the concert bands are performing for Pre-UIL and UIL. All band students are performing at Solo and Ensemble this weekend. Make sure to have your calendars marked for these major dates!

Sectional attendance: 3rd, 4th, and 5th period bands have after school sectionals and rehearsals, and they are strictly mandatory. Rehearsal attendance affects grades, and most importantly, missing any sectionals or rehearsals drastically impacts the team.

JAZZ BAND:

BLINN JAZZ FESTIVAL
Friday, March 6, 2026
On March 6th Friday, the jazz band will travel to Blinn College to do a festival performance/competition for the Blinn College 30th Annual Jazz Festival.

9:13    Arrive in the band hall for 3rd Period Class, load up equipment
10:00    Depart from AHS to Blinn College
11:45    Arrive, lunch in the student cafeteria (all forms of payment taken there)
6:00    Warmup @ Student Center Ballroom
6:30    Performance @ Dr. W.W. O'Donnell Performing Arts Center
7:00    Clinic @ Blackbox
8:00    Blinn College Concert and Awards Ceremony
9:00    Drive Home
9:45     Late-night stop at Buc-ees in Waller for food/snacks (20 mins)
11:10    Arrive at AHS

JAZZ BAND AT SAM HOUSTON STATE BILL WATROUS JAZZ FESTIVAL
Saturday, March 28, 2026
On March 28th Saturday, the jazz band will travel to Sam Houston State University to do a festival performance/competition for the Bill Watrous Jazz Band Festival.
  • 6:30 Arrive at AHS
  • 7:00 Depart to Sam Houston State University
  • 8:30 Arrive at Sam Houston State University, unload equipment
  • 9:30 Warmup time
  • 10:30 AHS Jazz Band Performance
  • 11:00 Pack up equipment onto bus
  • 11:30 Head to lunch
  • 1:15 Clinic with Eric Marienthal
  • 2:30 Listen to jazz bands
  • 5:30 Dinner Break
  • 7:30 Concert and Awards with the SHSU Jazz Ensemble
  • 8:30 Load up on the bus
  • 10:00 Estimated time back to AHS
