AMB WEEKLY UPDATE 9/8/2025
Congratulations to everyone on another amazing football game! We added new show content, and it went really well! We are making really great progress!! This week, we will be primarily focused on cleaning what we have as well as adding a few more maneuvers to the field. CALENDAR CHANGE - CHANNELVIEW MARCHING INVITATIONAL FESTIVAL OCTOBER 11th: Students now have October 4th off for homecoming. We have moved that performance to the Channelview Marching Invitational Festival on Saturday October 11th. This is the Saturday before we start our Don't-Go-On-Vacation Fall Break and the Saturday right before the UIL Region Marching Contest, so this will be particularly great for our program. We are thankful for Channelview directors working with us to give us an opening in their lineup of great bands. Also, I know the big ask it is to ask families to adjust their schedules, but we are confident that it is the best call for our kids. Thank you all for being flexible! REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE: I do want to make sure everyone understands the importance of rehearsal attendance. Any time a student misses rehearsal, they miss important information for the team as well as opportunities to practice their performance. It affects other players who have to march with a missing player on the field. Thursday rehearsals are the most critical of all of them, as it is our last rehearsal day before a major performance to put it all together. STUDENTS LATE TO PRACTICE: please see the AHS Band handbook regarding being late to practice on www.atascocitaband.com The amount of time a student is late to practice is the amount of time they must stay later to make up the missed time. (Ex: If a student is 5 minutes late, they must stay after 5 minutes.) Go to page 17 of the band handbook at https://www.atascocitaband.com/the-band-handbook.html#/ to review the details regarding this procedure. 5TH WEEK GRADES: There are only two more weeks left until eligibility will go into effect. It is crunch time for band students who are in trouble with grades to work them out so they will not be eliminated due to grade ineligibility. Reminder that Texas state law regarding no-pass-no-play applies to the 6th week. If a student fails a class on the 6th week of the grading period, they will be completely knocked out of eligibility to participate in the program. NEXT FOOTBALL GAME: This week, the band will perform on September 12th Friday vs. Austin Westlake High School as a home game at our Turner Stadium. Go to www.atascocitaband.com under Quick Links for the football game itinerary. It will be entirely the same as last week’s. ATTIRE FOR THE GAME: Same as previous game
(The next week is a bye-week, and then the attire changes to full uniforms: coats, pants.) REHEARSAL SCHEDULE AND CALENDAR: We are transitioning to after school rehearsals this week. It will be important for all band students to have sunscreen, protective head wear, and water jug (more on this below). Students will also need all of their marching music and their instruments on the field.
The rehearsal schedule up to the end of marching and football season can be found at our website: www.atascocitaband.com and click on CALENDAR. FIRST MARCHING FESTIVAL: our first major festival performance is the Humble ISD invitational festival on September 27th Saturday. The itinerary of the event is located on the main band website page. www.atascocitaband.com WATER JUG: We will be implementing a water jug policy this week at all AMB rehearsals. All band students will be required to bring a water jug to practice, and there will no longer be exceptions to this. Any student without a water jug will be not allowed on the field until they acquire one. If a student goes all rehearsal long without marching because of no water jug, it will be marked as an unexcused absence. Please see the most recent document on the BAND APP for more information on the water jug policy.
