AMB WEEKLY UPDATE 8/13/2026

Greetings, Eagle Family! This is all going to be a fire hydrant worth of information, and it is our hope to not overwhelm. There is a LOT to go over this week, so we are going to just dive right in. I have two attachments to this update: one is a checklist of all the things needed to participate, and all the required items needed to purchase.

CHECKLIST: Attached is a checklist of all the things that you need to do to prepare for the first football game. Make sure that you have checked off all items to be sure that you have everything you need to be an active member in band.

OUTDOOR REHEARSAL ATTIRE: light colored shirt, athletic shorts, tennis shoes (not crocs or sandals or slides), water jug. Students need their music and pencils. If a band student doesn’t have a water jug or appropriate attire, they will be sent back inside to retrieve the appropriate materials.

INDOOR REHEARSAL ATTIRE: The band directors want students to wear tennis shoes for indoor practice during the school day. We understand there are students who like to dress super nice for school, but band class would be great if students could change into tennis shoes for their band class. We would recommend that students keep tennis shoes inside their lockers so that they can change into them during the class time. We will definitely be moving and marching inside the band hall during class.

BAND ANNUAL DUES: ​All Atascocita HS band students must purchase the Annual Due of $350.
  • The purpose of the Annual Band Fee is to help with the various expenses that are necessary to run a quality band program that are in addition to the district budget of the program. To operate a “competitive” program, the band directors offer an activity fee that is budgeted to items where everyone in the band benefits. 
  • All students must be paid up with their band fees no later than August 20th. This date was given out in April at our AHS Band Orientation.

REQUIRED PURCHASES: Attached is a flyer of all required purchases. All students should have purchased their blue band shirts, red polo shirts, black marching shoes, and your annual dues. All students should have purchased their items before the first football game on August 29th. If you missed out on the cutoff date to purchase items, then we might have some extras in our inventory to sell. We will send out more information on that later too.  
BAND REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE CALENDAR: The rehearsal and performance calendar is located on the band website. Please make sure to check it very regularly, as we sometimes must be flexible with mitigating weather conditions.
SATURDAY PRACTICES: As mentioned at orientation last year, to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, especially with the high wet bulb globe index readings, we will be holding three Saturday morning practices in lieu of one of our weekday practices. This schedule adjustment is designed to help us avoid the hottest parts of the day while still allowing for crucial preparation before our first game. The Saturday practice days are August 15 and August 22 from 7:30am to 10:30am. 

PHYSICAL AND RANK ONE FORMS: In order to participate outside, UIL and Humble ISD require all band students enrolled in the marching band to obtain a physical before participating in any marching band activities. All band students must also submit RankOne forms online. Band class awards PE credit, so all students are required to participate in the marching band and must have a physical and RankOne forms.
FIRST FOOTBALL GAME (and attire) The band will perform on August 29th Saturday vs. Katy High School away at Katy ISD Legacy stadium. An itinerary went out last week regarding all of the details for the football game. Students will be primarily wearing their red polo band shirts all day - pep rally game. There is a typo on the itinerary - it will be the red polo shirt for the pep rally and the football game uniform. 

FLIP FOLDER: All students need to purchase their own flip folder before the Friday game next week. These folders hold their music in the stands, and it’s a very important part of their equipment. Click here for a link to Amazon for an example of what to get. 

LYRE: All students also need to purchase the thing that holds the flip folder, which is call the lyre. Here’s an example of one for saxophone - you just need to find one for your instrument. Flutes and French Horns will have the lyres that wrap around their wrist. 

PARENT VOLUNTEERS: PARENTS - WE NEED YOUR HELP. The Boosters will be sending out information soon regarding concession stand volunteer sign up. We are kindly asking for each family to at least sign up for at least two or three concession stand spots each year. Volunteering for the concession stands is an expectation of the program (in the same way of being a snack parent or dugout mom/dad for little league baseball). We always need serious help. We understand that some families are not in a situation where they can sign up, but there are so many ways that you can still help! Email ahsbandboosterspresident@gmail.com for more information. 

BAND APP: The BAND app will be THE source of communication that we will utilize throughout the year for directors to send out information to students and parents. The BAND app works a lot like modern social media outlets (i.e. Facebook) in which directors and students can interact together.

AMAZON WISHLIST: The band directors have a “wishlist” of items that we could REEEEEALLY use in the offices and our band hall. Think of it as an elementary school supplies sheet with Kleenex boxes, pencils, post-it notes, etc. We could use all of those things:

UIL ELIGIBILITY AND GRADES: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. As we transition from the excitement of summer camp and look ahead to our first football game, it's crucial to remember a vital aspect of participation in our marching band: academic eligibility. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) sets clear guidelines for student participation in extracurricular activities, and maintaining passing grades is a non-negotiable requirement.

To be eligible to perform with the band, especially in UIL competitions and during the football season, students must be passing all of their courses. This means consistent effort and focus in the classroom are just as important as mastering your instrument or marching technique. Failing even one class can unfortunately lead to a student being declared academically ineligible, which would prevent them from participating in performances and competitions until their grades improve.

We encourage all students to prioritize their academic responsibilities FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY. Utilize resources like tutoring, communicate with your teachers, and manage your time effectively to ensure you're successful in all your classes. Your dedication to your studies not only benefits your individual academic journey but also ensures the full strength and participation of our entire band. Let's all try to work together to achieve excellence both on the field and in the classroom! The band directors are here to help in any way we can.

GREETINGS, BAND FAMILY! We have summer camp officially underway, and our kids are doing AMAZING! Our rehearsals have been super positive and fun (and hot), and we are so excited to go beyond this year with our new show!

Here are some important updates for the week. NOTICE: THE SCHEDULE IS CHANGING SLIGHTLY NEXT WEEK. READ BELOW.

PHYSICALS AND RANKONE: IMPORTANT! All students MUST have an athletic physical on file with the band directors no later than the first day of summer camp, which was today. Without the physical, you will not be allowed to participate outside with the rest of the team. July 27-31: Summer Camp Week One, 7am to 4pm
  • 7am to 10am - practice field, outdoor marching (day one is inside)
    • 10:00-12:00 masterclasses with teachers
    • 12:00-1:00 lunch
    • 1:00-2:00 small sections with leadership
    • 2:00-3:00 large section with drum majors
    • 3:00-4:00 full band with band directors
    • There will be a lunch break during the day. The directors recommend that all band students bring their own lunch so that you do not have to go off campus.
    • This year, we WILL ALLOW students to go off campus for lunch, as long as all students are back in time for the next session.

August 3-7: Summer Camp Week Two
  • THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE TO THE SCHEDULE. We have just received our responsibilities for professional development, and the band directors are required to attend our development on Monday and Tuesday. Therefore, the schedule for Monday and Tuesday will be different.
    • Monday and Tuesday, the time has changed to 1:30pm to 8:30pm
    • Instead of Boosters providing the meal plan pre purchased meals during lunchtimes these days, they will provide the meals during dinnertime instead. 
    • The Monday and Tuesday schedule will be:
      • 1:30 to 2:30 Big sections - woodwind, brass, color guard, percussion
      • 2:30 to 4:30 Full Band Combined rehearsal inside
      • 4:30 to 5:30 Early Dinner
      • 5:30 to 8:30 Drill Learning Outside
  • For Wednesday, Thursday, the schedule changes back to 7am to 4pm. On Tuesday night after rehearsal, band students will go home, clean up, go to bed right away, and then wake up the next morning. It’s not ideal, but we will need the time for preparation purposes for our performance.
  • August 7 Friday, the schedule is shortened. 7AM to 12PM. Then we have a showcase that night. Lunch will not be provided this day since the students will release early.
August 7 AMB Showcase: On that Friday, we will showcase to our family, friends, and constituents the results of our summer camp work. Our marching band will demonstrate marching basics, music basics, show music, drumline cadences, drill team dance music, and so much more.
  • The showcase starts at 7PM.
  • AMB students will have a break after summer camp ends that Friday, and will then return to the band hall by 5:30PM to prepare for the showcase.
  • The Band Boosters will be at the showcase to provide a lot of information to all students and parents for the year.

Greetings Eagle Family! We have a few weeks left until everyone returns back from vacation to join us for our 2026 Marching Season. Celebrating 20 years of marching arts history at our high school, this is going to be an absolutely exciting time for our young marchers, as they are all going to make tremendous history this year with our amazing marching band.

The percussion section and color guard have already been hard at work developing skills and learning parts of the show. They continue to impress us every day!

July 13-17: Percussion and color guard continue, 8am to 3pm. 
Leadership Week is mandatory for the full leadership team. This is only for students on the full leadership team.
  • July 14: Leadership Day with Frank Troyka runs from 9AM to 12PM.
  • July 15: Preparation Day with Mr. Best at AHS runs from 9AM to 4PM, wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes
  • July 16: Blue Devils Leadership Camp
    • Check-in starts at 9:00AM at Humble High School. Lunch is provided.
    • Closes at 5:00.
  • July 17: Blue Devils Leadership Camp and a DCI Performance located in Katy, Texas.
    • Arrive at AHS 9:30AM to depart to Legacy Stadium
    • DCI Show ends at 11:00PM, arrive at AHS by 12:00am
July 20-24: Freshman begin, and welcome back full band!
  • Monday Tuesday and Wednesday 20th-22nd: Color Guard, Percussion, and All Freshman woodwind and brass
    • 9th graders and leadership team, you will need an instrument for these three days. If you don’t have one, we will check one out to you.
    • We suggest that all students bring their own lunch - there will be a lunch break between 11am to 12pm.
    • We will allow students to go off campus for lunch, as long as all students are back in time for the next session.
    • We will not be going outside, but tennis shoes are required.
    • All leadership team will be required for these dates.
  • Thursday and Friday 23-24th: Welcome Back Camp 8am to 3pm
    • This week will welcome back everyone 9th through 12th grade band students in the band hall. All activities will be inside. Use this week to secure your athletic physical if you have not already done so.
    • The Friday 24th is Freshman Fish Camp from 8am to 11am. We will not have 9th graders with us for the first part of our day this day. We will use this time to revisit old stand music for the purpose of the fish camp pep rally. (don’t worry - we will be learning new stuff too, just not on this day)
    • 9th graders once your fish camp is complete at 11am, it will be lunch time. Join us for lunch, and then return back to band for the rest of the day until 3pm.
    • Welcome back camp hours are 8AM to 3PM. Lunch at 11:00am.
    • There will be a lunch break during the day. The directors recommend that all band students bring their own lunch so that you do not have to go off campus.
    • This year, we WILL ALLOW students to go off campus for lunch, as long as all students are back in time for the next session.

ACTION ITEM: Athletic Physical is Required to Participate
FINANCIAL DEADLINES!

The hard deadline to purchase the required Woodwind and Brass Performer Package was June 1.
  • The total cost of this package was $295.
  • If you purchased your items, you got a spot on the field. Yay!
  • If you did not purchase your June 1st items, you will be unable to perform on the field. You can still participate with the band at games, you will just be unable to join us on the field as we should all have matching uniform tops and joggers.
  • This required package includes the Ultimate Drill Book Subscription ($20), Digital Performance Top ($70), Red Band Polo Shirt ($30), Black Joggers ($30), DSI Crossover Black Marching Shoes ($75), Band Shorts ($20), and Drifit Show Shirt ($20).
  • The DSI MTX Crossover Shoe is designed specifically for marching turns on turf and must be paid for by June 1, 2026
  • Annual Band Dues are $350 and must be paid by August 20.
  • A monthly payment plan is available for band dues.

AMB Marching Band Showcase 2026
  • The end-of-camp AMB Showcase performance will take place on August 7, 2026.
  • The show starts at 7PM.
  • The event will be held in the Atascocita High School competition gym, located at 13300 Will Clayton Pkwy, Humble, TX 77346.
  • Admission to the showcase is free.

Ultimate Drill Book Subscription
  • Part of the student’s June 1st required purchases was a subscription to the cell phone app we use to teach our drill to students. It requires for students to have a cell phone that they can open the app and locate their drill spot and receive real-time instructions from directors, marching techs, body movement choreographers, and more.
  • The app Ultimate Drill Book is available on Android and Apple devices. We will instruct students on how to use it once we reach the UIL official drill start date of August 1st.
  • If your child does not have a phone, it’s okay. We will provide them with the paper version of the drill. It will not have a lot of the real-time instructions on there, but they will be able to still receive the necessary information required to perform.
  • We do recommend in this case that our band students have some sort of electronic device on the field. If you have an old Android or Apple phone laying around somewhere for just the sole purpose of drill learning after school, that would be ideal. Otherwise, we will issue out the paper versions to those students as an alternative.

AMB WEEKLY UPDATE 5/18/2026

Greetings, Eagle Band Family! We are ALMOST there to the end! This week, we honor our senior class, as this is the official last week with them, and they will be performing their final and last-ever concert with the Atascocita High School band. We are also honoring them by playing at the AHS Graduation this coming Saturday.

Mr. Hicks has asked if you have ANY school-owned instrument at home, please bring it back up to the school. We have a district-level fine arts instrument audit in progress, and we are doing the best we can to scan instruments in.

This update will deal with three things:

  1. Spring Concert and Itinerary
  2. Graduation and Itinerary
  3. AMB Required Purchases by June 1

    • Call times will be announced separately. Performance begins at 7:00 PM in the Atascocita High School Performing Arts Center (PAC) Auditorium.

  • May 22: Color Guard Practice 4:30 - 6:00
  • May 23: Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony performs at AHS Graduation, Daiken Park    
  • May 25: Memorial Day Holiday
  • May 26: Marching Band Mini-Camp 4:30 to 7:00 in the AHS Gym
    • We removed the last two days since they were early release. We will be in the gym on May 26. All 8th graders as well as 9th through 11th will attend.

    • Concert attire is concert blacks. Men, solid black attire. Women, same with a dress black pant. Same as UIL. A tradition the band has, is seniors are allowed to wear their outfits from prom.
  • May 23 Saturday: Graduation
    • For 4th and 5th period band students (minus seniors)

Greetings, Eagle Band Family! We are proud of our Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble students in their performance at Sam Houston State University this past weekend. They played very well, and we are very proud of them representing Atascocita High School through high-quality musicianship.

As we push through the final reps of the school year, our focus must remain absolutely locked in. We are laying the groundwork right now for a large 280+ corps-style marching band next year. Every performance, every rehearsal, and every meeting sets the standard for what is to come. This week, we are excited to launch our new leadership team into action and share our Wind Ensemble onto the University of Houston stage. Let’s finish the year strong.

Greetings Eagle family! We have gotten past a lot of big events in our band world this last month, including concert and sightreading, evaluations, orientation, and much more! 

We are thankful for everyone who came to marching band orientation. The directors are tremendously excited to kick start the new year with an all-new marching band season. If you missed orientation, we will get with you and help you through the process to get started with the band next year.
 
CALENDAR: Here is a look at the band calendar that takes us to the end of school:

  • May 4: Wind Ensemble upper woodwind sectional 3:00 to 4:30
  • May 5: Drum Major Finals Auditions 3:30 to 5:30
  • May 7: Wind Ensemble after school rehearsal 3:30 to 5:30

BAND BANQUET! IS THIS THURSDAY! We are excited to party!!

TUESDAY: HIGH SCHOOL BAND ORIENTATION: It is time! We are gearing up for the next school year, and we are tremendously excited to share with everyone our theme, the music, the outfits, and SO much more! Orientation is something that you will not want to miss at all. We will reveal our show theme and so much more.
  • High school band orientation will be located in the AHS Auditorium at 6PM for returning students, and 7:15PM for all incoming new students (8th graders).

COLOR GUARD SPIN PARTY: The high school band is creating an all-new color guard and dance team. We encourage our students and families to reach out to non-band students who may be interested in participating in our program who have not previously played an instrument but want to do something different. Any interested student can join us for our spin party next week on April 27-29 in the band hall.

PERCUSSION PAD CAMP: All percussionists 8th grade to 11th grade who are signed up for band for next year will participate in this year’s pad camp in the high school band hall. Percussion pad camp dates and times are April 20-22 and April 27-29. 4:30 to 6:00.

BAND PHYSICALS and RANKONE: All band students for the next year must have an athletic physical form on file. They also must have a RankOne profile signed up. The latest Humble ISD physical and RankOne can be located here:

BAND EVALUATION: We have already started the evaluations for the concert band placement for next year. We are going to try to have every student heard at least by the end of this week. DRUM MAJORS: We will have weekly drum major practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. Since we have over 25 candidates applying for drum major, we will have a prelims audition on the original date April 24th to determine the top 10 for a finals audition on May 1st.

JAZZ BAND: Tryouts are now available for students who would like to participate in the AHS Jazz Band for the next school year. We are looking for saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, piano, and even vocalists. Jazz band auditions will take place on April 29th and all students will record their audition and submit it on a Google Form. The music for tryouts will be really short, and it will be provided here really soon.

DRUMLINE @ PARADE OF FLOWERS: We are still waiting on the City of Humble to give us details on the event. We anticipate that it will be around morning and will be a very short event - about an hour. LEADERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Are now open and we are accepting applications today. Any student who is interested in serving on next year’s marching band leadership team will be required to submit an application, receive 5 letters of recommendation (on a Google form), play scales, and interview with the band directors.   • The interviews will take place the week of April 27th and will be named by the end of the week on that Friday.

DRUM MAJORS: Any student who is interested in trying out for drum major, please meet with us after school on Wednesday April 8th. Drum major candidates must fill out the entire leadership application above to be considered. We will have weekly drum major practices. The final audition is April 24th after school.

Greetings Eagle family! I hope that you all had a wonderful spring break with your friends and family. The rest I know was much needed from everyone. Now that we are back, we are officially in contest mode. We have one more week of preparation, and then it’s UIL concert and sightreading time!

Once UIL concert and sightreading evaluation is behind us, all of the leadership applications, the band registration links, drum major applications, and evaluation music will all be released. Be on the lookout for all of the information in two weeks.

BOOSTER MEETING TONIGHT. Tonight, we have a band booster meeting. The booster board will meet at 6:00, and booster parents for the band are welcome to attend at 7:00 PM.

UIL CONCERT AND SIGHTREADING: The schedule of events is located on the main band webpage - www.atascocitaband.com 

!!! IMPORTANT !!! The schedule for each band class is different, and the bus situation looks different for everyone. It’s important that everyone understands what we need to do to navigate around our transportation situation.

Note: EVERYONE IS ELIGIBLE FOR OUR UIL CONCERT & SIGHT-READING PERFORMANCE! IT IS A SUMMATIVE GRADE!

UIL ATTIRE:
  • SHOES: Must be all black. No white/brown soles or colored shoelaces. They must be dressy-casual or dressy. No high heels please.
  • PANTS: Must be solid black (not dark gray, blue or any other color). Ensure the pants are full length and not designed to be short. Make sure they are dressy. No black jeans.
  • BELTS: Must be black. If there are belt loops, the student must wear a belt that is professional and not colorful.
  • SOCKS/HOSIERY: Solid BLACK sock/hosiery that at least goes up the mid-calf.
  • SHIRTS: Solid BLACK (not grey, light black, navy or any other color) long sleeve, button down, collared shirt for gentlemen with a solid black tie. Ladies should wear a long sleeve blouse that is not too light weight because the stage/auditorium could be chilly.
  • HAIR: Can be down, pretty, but not distracting.
  • JEWELRY: NO WATCHES OR BRACELETS! One ring on each hand (not finger) may be worn. A light, non-distracting necklace may be worn.
**There will be a visual uniform inspection when we meet in the Band Hall. Please understand that if you are not dressed correctly, you will not be able to travel/perform with the band at contest. Please verify NOW that you have the correct attire and solve any issues that arise before Wednesday, April 3rd. **

Parents are highly encouraged to attend their child’s concert and sightreading event. Parents are allowed to listen in the auditorium for the concert portion and follow the band into the sight reading room
