Following upcoming events:
LAST BASKETBALL GAME: We only have one more game left, and Mr. Falker and our basketball coaches are counting on us to be there. If your name is on the list to participate, then that means you signed up and I am counting on you to be there for our last one. Please be at the boys game tomorrow for your 6PM call-time. The games don’t last as long as a football game, and we are in and out in about an hour and 15 minutes of game time. AMB WEEKLY UPDATE 1/27/2025
Greetings Eagle Family! I hope that everyone enjoyed their 5-day weekend! We played in the snow with our family and made an actual snowman. It was pretty amazing. Now that we are back in the swing of things, here is this week’s update of all the things going on in band world here at Atascocita. All band rehearsals and sectionals are resuming as normal this week. Upcoming Events:
That will get us to at least spring break. We have a super busy schedule this semester full of amazing music-making with our great program. Here are some more details on all the things coming up from the list above. BASKETBALL GAMES: The games are very fun, as we are now the student body section making noise, cheering on our team, and heckling the other guys. All students who agreed to be present and can volunteer their time, these hours you spend will count as volunteer hours for your forms. Please be at the dates listed above for your 6PM call-time. The games don’t last as long as a football game, and we are in and out in about an hour and 15 minutes of game time. VARSITY BAND SIDE BY SIDE: We are waiting to find a new time to do our AMS side by side since it got snowed out. Wind Ensemble will be missing school for the TMS sbs and the WLMS sbs. More details will follow in wind ensemble class. NEW YORK TRIP: It is fast approaching, and we are flying out literally next week! Very exciting! Make sure that you are on the BAND app for the New York trip, as we will be posting more information on airport arrival, luggage requirements, and much more. SOLO AND ENSEMBLE: On February 22 Saturday, all band students will be playing either a solo or ensemble as part of their class requirements. A schedule of performance times will be posted soon. PRE-UIL CONCERT AND SIGHTREADING: Varsity band will perform on February 27, and all the rest of the bands will perform on March 6. A detailed schedule of events will be provided soon once the details are more ironed out, but please make sure to have that date blocked for the pre-UIL performance with your band class. Greetings band family! We all hope that you enjoyed lots of quality time and great food with your loved ones this Thanksgiving week. We are only three weeks away from Christmas break! So we have one big strong push to the finish line, and then all the things band will wind down for us until the next semester.
There are several things happening all at once, and I will be attaching this email to this post. We will also go over the itinerary with our students in class so that everyone knows the game plan. THIS WEEK’S SCHEDULE
THURSDAY: We will have a short band rehearsal with all of the students who will NOT be auditioning on Saturday TMEA Region day. We need to see what this will look like for us and come up with a game plan. FRIDAY: Phase 1 of TMEA Region Band auditions, if you are Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion. Everyone else is free this day. SATURDAY: …is a little crazy. It is the continuation of Phase 1 TMEA students who have not competed yet (Piccolo, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Bassoon, Oboe English Horn, French Horn, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba), and it will also be the Phase 2 of students who have advanced in the next round of region. ……and a football playoff game. 🙂 SATURDAY PLAYOFF GAME: vs. North Shore HS at Aldine ISD Thorne Stadium (we are the visiting team) - ticket sales will be posted soon. The itinerary I am posting will go into more detail, and we will keep everyone updated through the week. Please read through the itinerary entirely so that you know what your responsibilities are for this week. GOOD EVENING band family! I'd like to send out a huge congrats to our marching band. The directors are WAY proud of every student who performed yesterday - we made tremendous improvement over the last time that we were at GP. We will recap our scores with the students tomorrow at rehearsal. One judge placed the band 5th overall out of all 20 6A bands in the caption of MUSIC. At a corps band competition, this is a tremendous accomplishment!
The video of the performance is here: https://youtu.be/Y6FnaSkFSFI?si=SwyJW6DMcDYNHLjn FALL BREAK: All students have a fall break agreement in conjunction with all other high school bands in the district for practice this week. We had our band family vote, and we decided to do AM practices based off of that. This will be good because the weather will be 70 degrees, and we can knock it out early! The schedule this week: Mon 7:30AM to 10:00 Tues 7:30 to 10:00 Thurs 7:30 to 10:00 Friday Game performance All practices will be on the practice field unless we get stadium clearance. All ALTERNATES are encouraged to come to practice on Monday, and then they will be excused on Tues and Thurs and will join us on Friday for the game. WATER JUGS and HYDRATION: We will continue to provide large coolers of ice water for all students. However, we need for every band student to come to rehearsal with a water jug. Our band is having a hydration problem, and we need everyone's help to stay safe. I schedule water breaks typically after every 3 to 5 repetitions of what we do, but students can't show up to practice already dehydrated. Please limit caffeine, sugary drinks, and energy drinks this week and stick to water with good electrolytes.
TUESDAY - SPRING CONCERT: Please join us on Tuesday for our annual Spring Concert featuring all of our high school band students. Concert is free admission, and it starts at 6:30PM. PARENTS: We encourage all parents and family to attend what will be the final performance for a lot of band students this year, and including the seniors, which for some will be their final performance as a high school student.
All band students - your call time for the concert is no later than 5:45PM. We will need the Concert Band on stage, and the other three bands will be in the auditorium with their instruments. We will give instructions once everyone is here in the band hall. Concert attire is your UIL blacks from your April contest - black shirt, black dress pants, black socks, black shoes. If you are a senior, you are permitted to wear your prom outfits (you don’t have to, but if you want to, you can). WEDNESDAY - BAND REGISTRATION MAKE-UP DAY: May 15, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm. The flier said the 13th, and that was a goof on my part. It should be on the 15th on the Wednesday. The registration only takes about 15 minutes of time. It’s super quick this year. If you received a letter, we need to make sure that we get you in for the band next year. Please make plans on being there if you were not able to previously. FRIDAY - VARSITY BAND @ UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON: The Wind Ensemble will do their final performance of their recording tour at the Moores Opera House at the University of Houston at 11AM. An itinerary of the event is attached here. PARENTS: this is your last opportunity to observe the amazing music making that these wonderful students have achieved this year. This is definitely the most challenging program that has ever been done with this band, and they rose to the challenge this year! Typically, parents come to this performance, and we would urge all of the Wind Ensemble parents to attend your kiddos’ very last performance of the school year. We hope to send our best recordings to the TMEA Honor Band Competition, which will be evaluated in June. |
